| so i finished up the NA>TT conversion today. some of you mightve seen my post on the screeching sound when i first started it up. well i fixed that, it turned out to be the starter staying engaged on account of the larger TT flywheel. i shimmed out each side 2mm as bernie suggested. big thanks to him and guapo for answering all my stupid questions during the swap. well my z journey has certainly seen its fair share of twists and turns. from my hydrolocked NA, i swapped another NA engine in, only to find that it had a rod knock. not wanting to risk anything with that engine, i opted to rip it all out again and start over with a TT swap. i bought a TT front clip from NoyanUSA. after pulling that engine out of the clip, i found that it was blown, the valves were bent. luckily, i had purchased an additional month of insurance from Noyan and they replaced the engine with no questions. after i got the new one in, i quickly realized that 3 out of the 4 turbos that i had were bad. so after sourcing some from a member, i was on my way. this is the end all posts for me, so get ready, ill be posting all of the pictures that i have related to the swap. here we go.. this is what i started with. stage 2 + NA with a rod knock. next to that blue tarp in the background is the old hydrolocked engine.

unhooking stuff..

pulling the engine. milo, luis, and i decided to pull the engine with the trans. this is a great idea, you can

engine number 1
engine number 2

the clip arrives. at this point i had already taken off the bumper and headlights.
look at these horns! they are LOUD :)
the only AC line problem i had. fitting the TT condensor was not that hard of a problem. note these are NA AC lines im using.
solved - has o ring not pictured
intercooler piping is not all that bad either.
the clip waiting to be gutted of its engine.

engine #3 - clip engine

#4 plug, the broken one had oil on it
breaker bar would move no more
turbo collection. at this point i actually have 6, but 2 are on engine #3 still

check this out, these are both auto TT turbos, but the wastegate actuator mountingholes are different. guapo suggest i clock it, but the alignment wouldve been way off if i had done that. its just that the holes are drilled differently. the compressor outlet and exhaust outlet are at the same angles and everything. weird, eh?

alright, drop in day

a secret for people who go as far as pulling engines?
"braaaawwwr"

interesting comparison. shown is an RPS segmented flywheel (TT), then an NA flywheel.
i drew a line out on the pavement to compare the flywheels

the NA flywheel. that is less than a 1/4inch different. this is with the flywheel just resting on the other side of the circle. when centered its less than 1/8 of an inch all the way around. amazing how close they are, just enought o cause problems though

tranny work, sorry for the dark pics

the first inhibitor of the tranny stabbing

no pics of the next part unfortunately. i got the new nismo bearing in and tried stabbing 3 times, each time i had to grind more out of the bell housing to make it fit. i hate transmissions.

getting rained on
today after i got it started and running right

there are still a few kinks to work out. i figured there would be, but im pretty sure its safe to drive, so i finally have a consistent way to work again! yay! overall this was a pretty hard project with a lot of unnecessary bumps, but it was fun. now what am i going to do every weekend?
